In the Balearic Islands, the tourism sector represents 45% of the regional GDP, and it also presents some environmental challenges, such as peak water and energy consumption or waste management. At the same time, tourism in the Mediterranean region is expected to be impacted by climate change. Elisa Sainz de Murieta (BC3) participated in a roundtable at COP25 in Madrid together with Juan Pedro Yllanes, Vicepresident and Minister of Energy Transition of the regional government,  Miquel Mir, regional Minister for the Environment, and Susana Mora, President of the Menorcan Council. Prior to the roundtable, Elisa Sainz de Murieta explained some of the expected impacts of climate change in the Mediterranean areas of Spain and presented some preliminary results of the potential impacts on tourism, developed within the COACCH project.
